    Default 50's ? 70's led stings

im trying to decide whether to stay with paul's 50's ct strings or his 70's ct strings (c-6).
what does everybody use that buys his ? how do the 70s hold up compared to the 50's ? do you have probs with half of the 70s string going out ? im not concerned about the 100's. i know first hand about those

I wont start that fight, but when it goes down, I'll join it.

    Thyno,

About 97% of my CDI LEDs (over 600 strings) are the 50's. I've only lost a couple of them. For 2009 I did order 24 strings in 100 ct (12 Blue and 12 Green) and they held up fine.

For 2010 I am planning to order 96 stings in 70 ct. Sure hope they hold up as well as the 50 ct. Would be my first time using the 70s

So I can recommend the 50 ct, will have to wait and see on the 70 count.

    John,

I'm planning on ordering some LEDs from Paul for my firesticks. Should I order 50's, 70's, or 100 ct?

    Thanks,
    Brandon

Hard to give you an answer, Brandon. Define what your term "firesticks" means?

How are you planning to construct them?

    Firesticks are basiclly vertical arches.

Oh, you were using a Chuck H term. Chuck H is not a member here. I had to go search on another forum to figure out what you were referring to.

Well, it's still hard to answer your question without more information.

How many lights do you want per channel? How "long" do you want each channel to be on the stick? How many channels per stick? How long is each stick?

The 50 count lights are 17 feet. The 70's are 23 feet and the 100's are 33 feet long.

What size pipe are you planning to use? How do you plan to mount them vertical?

The lights from Paul with a "true" 4 inch spacing work best when wound on 1/2 inch or 1 inch pipe. On 3/4 inch pipe the bulbs will almost line up in a straight line with each other.

Still don't have enough information to answer your question as to which lights you should order, as that will depend on your design.

I used 4 vertical "Vue-Meter" poles in my display this past year, all LED, and each pole was 12 feet tall and these were the kinds of questions I had to work through. I have since disassembled them, and started on a new design for 2010 that should be more robust for the wind load these things experience. I'll be using a mixture of 50 ct and 100 ct in 4 colors on 1 inch pipe

Right now on my incandescent light poles, I have one 100 ct string per channel. Each stick is 10' tall, and has 7 channles per stick.

I plan on using 1 1/4 PVC pipe. Or what size pipe would you recommend for vertical light poles? Yes, I plan to mount them vertical.

What I've done with my poles (I prefer simple names) is to insert a 10 ft' piece of 1/2" rigid conduit inside the 3/4" grey pvc. I attach the poles to a 4' high chain link fence with each pole zip-tied in three places between the ground and the top of the fence and I've had no issues whatsoever with stability. With 1" pvc the rigid conduit would be a little bit more pricey (and the entire pole will be heavier) but the Viagra effect should be the same.

I won't fire the first shot either - but when the shooting starts I'll be standing right behind Thyno.
